This policy (together with our terms of use and any other documents referred to on it) sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us (including information relating to which of your details shall be shared with Campaign Authors of projects and our university partners). Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it. For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”), the data controller is Crowdfnd Campus Limited whose registered office address is at Spring Bank, Ewyas Harold, Hereford, HR2 0JD.

What is shared with Campaign Authors

When you back a project, the project’s Campaign Author will know your:

Campaign Authors will never receive a contributor’s credit card details or other payment information.

Campaign Authors may also send you a survey requesting information needed to provide your reward. (For instance, they may need your t-shirt size.) Any information you provide in such surveys will be received by the Campaign Author.

What is shared with University Partners

In order to launch a campaign on Crowdfund Campus, the Campaign Author must have an affiliation to one of our partner Universities. Our campaigns benefit from these partnerships due to the exposure and promotion obtained throughout our partners’ communities and networks. In return, we supply our University Partners with this information:

  1. Campaign Author information – name, email, rrelationship with the university (i.e. student, staff, alumnus), and university ID, graduation year and course where applicable;
  2. Campaign Information including the success or failure of the campaign - campaign name,campaign category, amount raised, duration of the campaign, and number of backers;
  3. Backer Information - name of backer, e-mail, address (if collected), amount contributed, reward received, relationship with the university (i.e. student, staff, alumnus), graduation year and course where applicable.

Please note, if a Campaign Author is affiliated with a university, then only that university shall receive the above information about the campaign and its contributors, if the campaign is successful.

What is ‘Public’

When you create an account, we create a basic profile page for you on Crowdfund Campus, containing your name, email address, the date the account was created, and a list of projects you have backed or launched. Whenever your account name appears on the site (for instance, when you post comments, send messages, or back projects), other people can click your account name to see your profile. The profile is not searchable on Crowdfund Campus or via search engines like Google. The below is a list of some of the things that will be publicly viewable on your profile, or elsewhere on the site:

Please note that each project page lists the community of users who have backed the project. If you don’t want others to see your name in a project’s community tab, you can select to be anonymous on the backing page.

Campaign Authors are also asked to verify their identities before launching a project. Once this has been done, the Campaign Author’s verified name will be publicly displayed on their account profile and on any projects they launch.

Use of your Personal Information

We will use any personal information that you provide to us to:

We wil not share any personal information to any third parties, except our university partners and to those that need to have access to the information so that we can provide the services to you (for instance through the use of payment gateways like Stripe).

Email

We want to communicate with you only if you want to hear from us. We try to keep emails to a minimum and give you the ability to opt out when we can. We will send you email relating to your personal transactions. You will also receive certain email notifications, from which you may opt out. We may send you service-related announcements on the rare occasions when it is necessary to do so.

Cookies

Cookies are small pieces of information which are issued to your computer when you visit a website and which store and sometimes track information about your use of the service. Crowdfund Campus uses cookies to help recognize you as a repeat visitor, to improve the quality of our service, and to try and make your browsing experience meaningful.

When you enter our site, our web server sends a cookie to your computer which allows us to recognize your computer but not specifically who is using it. By associating the identification numbers in the cookies with other customer information when, for example, you log-in to the service, we know that the cookie information relates to you. Some of the code and cookies used by our service are served by us, and some are served by third parties who are delivering services on our behalf.

Most web browsers automatically accept cookies but, if you prefer, you can change your browser settings to opt out or to notify you each time a cookie is set up. To modify or delete the personal information you have provided to us, please log in and update your profile. We may retain certain information as required by law or for necessary business purposes. On request, and upon paying a small fee, we will give you a copy of all the personal information about you that we hold.

People under 18 (or the legal age in your jurisdiction) are not permitted to use Crowdfund Campus on their own, and so this privacy policy makes no provision for their use of the site. Information that you submit through the service may be transferred to countries other than where you reside. We will protect all information we receive in accordance with this privacy policy.
